Scott, should I eat the same amount of food and calories each day when I want to lose body fat faster? I find that after a few weeks of using a diet my progress stops and my energy is really poor. ~ Cheryl, Napa

Cheryl, you should increase caloric intake from quality food sources at least one time per week to accelerate body fat loss as part of a High Calorie Day Strategy. Based on many years of experience I have found that being at a caloric deficit for more than a week begins to slow down rates of fat burning. Furthermore the body also adapts to meal frequency and macronutrient percentages while becoming sick of foods consumed too often.

High Calorie Day Strategies

First and foremost the High Calorie Day to Maximize Fat Burning should not include junk food. The body can respond very well to a significant increase in calories from quality sources including grass fed T-bone steaks, Wild-caught Lobster, vegetables and organic dietary fat choices. A simple way to apply this system is to have an additional meal on the High Calorie Day and to consume organically raised protein sources with a higher content of dietary fat.

Macronutrient Cycling

Eating the same amounts of dietary fat, protein and carbohydrates on a daily basis kills fat burning progress as the body becomes accustom to certain eating patterns. Shifting up organic dietary fat intake on the High Calorie Day is a great way to surge fat burning enzymes for several days.

Carbohydrate Loading

The High Calorie Day can also be a great opportunity to increase carbohydrate intake to fuel fat burning. As Dr. Serrano often says the right sources, amounts, timing and combinations of carbohydrates are like adding a huge log to the fat burning fire. The carbohydrate intake should always be focused during the meal following weight training for men and women.
