Turkey Cooking Tips
We also have a page dedicated to Turkey Cooking Tips for more information about preparing your US Wellness Turkey. All US Wellness Meats pasture raised turkeys ship frozen, so please allow time for thawing.
During the holidays, we receive numerous questions about the care of our turkeys, their diet and food sources, welfare, and where they are sourced. This year we have two suppliers for turkey.

Maypop Farm
South Carolina Maypop Farm turkeys start in an outdoor moveable shed that allows them to have new pasture every day while keeping them safe. Once they are big enough, they are moved to a 45 acre pasture to roam free and root for food.
What Are The Breeds Raised?
Most are Broad Breasted Bronze with a few Broad Breasted Whites in the flock.
What Do They Eat?
After starting on an unmedicated commercial starter feed, at 3 weeks of age, these turkeys are switched over to a custom feed ground on the farm. This feed is made with non-gmo corn and bean meal. Most of their diet is from free-range rooting for food.
What About Antibiotics & Hormones?
No Antibiotics or artificial growth promotants are added. No added hormones.
Processing
These birds are air chilled and handled according to organic processing standards in a USDA inspected facility.
Gunthorp Farms
Gunthorp is a small family business and are advocates for rural development and sustainable agriculture. Their birds are raised on certified organic pasture and never confined to a building. They use portable shelters that are moved around the pastures, always on grass. This allows them to be protected from the elements and predators while living in a more natural habitat. Gunthorp turkeys are raised seasonally in northeast Indiana when there is green grass.
