The Perfect Addition to Your Keto Diet

ketogenic, keto, high fat

Every year, approximately 45 million Americans go on a diet, according to the CDC. One diet that has steadily increased in popularity over the last 5 years is the low carb, high fat keto diet. The diet, which shares a number of similarities with the Atkins diet, requires followers to reduce their carb intake considerably while upping their fat intake. Although meat-free versions of the keto diet are also becoming quite popular, meat continues to be in high demand. This is not surprising in a diet that requires up to 70% of your daily calories to come from the fat found in dairy, healthy oils, fish and meat. When it comes to quality meat sources, there is one that stands head and shoulders above the rest: grass-fed beef.

Grass-fed beef has better fat

When it comes to finding the best meat to eat on a keto diet, beef is considered one of the best. As you start weighing up your beef options, you will find that grass-fed beef and grain-fed beef differ considerably. While grain-fed beef tends to have a higher fat content overall, its grass-fed counterpart sports a healthier type of fat. Grass-fed beef has been proven to be higher in Omega-3 fatty acids, as well as conjugated linoleic acids (CLAs), while containing significantly few calories. When following a keto diet, it is important to consume sufficient amounts of these healthy fats in order to remain in ketosis.

The entire family can feast on keto food

When a family consists of both people who eat keto and people who don’t, food prep can become an arduous affair. Thankfully, with a bit of research and the use of quality ingredients, it’s possible to make delicious meals that the entire family can enjoy. This is also a great way to introduce a new way of eating to the family, and children in particular, as they may not be too keen to try it if the whole family is not eating the same food. There is a range of keto-friendly foods such as eggs, yogurt and cheese that both young and old are bound to enjoy. Grass-fed beef in all its fabulous forms is another great all-around food that most meat-eaters will thoroughly enjoy. From perfectly-grilled steak and juicy burgers to tender roasts and a portion of sticky ribs (with keto basting, of course), beef can form the basis of countless delicious meals.

Grass-fed beef has other benefits too

While grass-fed beef is the perfect addition to a keto diet, helping you reach and stay in ketosis is not the only reason that it should be picked over grain-fed beef. As mentioned, grass-fed beef contains high levels of CLA. Research has found that CLA not only helps protect against cancer, but also aids in the regulation of healthy blood sugar levels. The Omega-3 fatty acids, on the other hand, can aid in the prevention and treatment of various medical conditions such as lupus, eczema, heart disease, stroke, and rheumatoid arthritis.

Grass-fed beef can easily be incorporated into a keto diet. Even if not everyone in your household is following keto fully, they can still indulge in the wonderful beef options available.
