Scott, how can my family avoid gaining body fat and feeling sluggish for days following Thanksgiving? Every year it seems we fall into the trap of eating poorly and not exercising enough during the holiday season. ~ Leslie

Dr. Serrano and I have assembled multiple proven strategies that will enable you to enjoy Thanksgiving without piling on body fat and feeling sluggish for days. You can enjoy desserts and all of your holiday favorites without gaining body fat if you implement the right strategies. I would start with prioritizing organic foods including a free range turkey and avoiding any trans fats within the side dishes, desserts of dressings. A free range turkey will not include antibiotics or the wrong ratios of dietary fats that can develop from feeding turkeys a diet that nature did not intend.

Keep in mind that we all have billions of fat cells that make up our body fat. Consumption of trans fats, hydrogenated oils, canola oil, soybean oil, and cottonseed oil for example screw up fat cell function which makes storage of body fat much more likely. You can cleanse billions of fat cells with strategies such as flexible fasting, essential fatty acids and consuming an organic diet.

Thanksgiving Body Fat Accumulation Prevention Strategies

  • Weight train on Thanksgiving Day 2 hours before the big meal
  • Avoid refined foods that cause bloating and sluggishness
  • Minimize Alcohol Intake
  • No liquid calories including juices
  • Include dietary fats such as grass fed butter and extra virgin olive oil with your meal
  • Engage in Family Physical Activities such a Football in the Backyard

It is ok to consume carbohydrates and desserts containing some sugar on Holidays including Thanksgiving, Christmas and the New Year. Having the right strategies in place can prevent body fat accumulation. Ideally you and your family are weight training three times per week and using fat burning intervals twice per week. Weight training a couple hours before a big meal can have a huge impact on metabolism and other hormonal markers to minimize body fat accumulation.

Avoid Food Allergies

Avoid the foods that cause massive bloating and sluggishness as these conditions lead to reduced activity and increased sugar intake. Refined foods can set off multiple problems for a large percentage of the population. However certain individuals can be sensitive to specific foods inherently and they can develop problems with foods they consume too often.
