“When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world.”

– John Muir, Naturalist & “Father of the National Parks”

We talk a lot about sustainable farming and the nutritional benefits of these practices as well as the positive effects on the environment. As farm families, we’re tied to the land and water for our livelihoods so it’s incumbent upon us to manage those resources with great care.

Here’s How It All Began…

Back in the mid-1990’s, several farm families came together to form what is now known as US Wellness Meats. The mission was to bring to market a more nutritious selection of meats from cleaner, greener, sustainable farms.

The family farm was fast becoming a thing of the past and needed a jump start. In order to stay a step ahead, the farm families of US Wellness Meats had begun to experiment with time honored land management techniques, employing rotational grazing, building soil biodiversity and planting native forages. The cattle loved the new conditions and salad bar diet.

Since then, we’re always looking for new ways to improve our stewardship efforts.

Renewable Energy

The sunshine plays a vital role in the production of native forage that our cattle love. Now, that same sunshine is providing green electricity for our facilities.

2019 brought a new opportunity to get greener and cleaner. With the recent addition of almost 600 solar panels on our warehouse roof, we’ve been able to curb our dependence on fossil fuels. US Wellness has fully embraced solar power to help supply a clean, renewable source of electricity to our warehouse and headquarters.

It’s really an investment in the future as we’re doing our very best to be good stewards of our planet.

When we went online in July 2019 with our new system, it was amazing to see the amount of electricity produced from these panels.

Solar Power By The Numbers

Number of Solar Panels = 560

Peak Power Output = 201.6 kWp

August CO2 Emissions Saved = 88,470.33 lbs

Equivalent Trees Planted = 2,228.24

August System Production = 30.05 MWh

A 2010 study by the EPA found the amount of CO2 emissions resulting from electricity production in various regions.

Hopes & Dreams For A Healthy Planet

We know these efforts are just a drop in the bucket, but if we all do a little we can make a huge impact. Our hope is that by using cleaner, greener alternatives whenever, wherever possible, we’re providing an opportunity for future generations to enjoy better health and well-being.

Thanks for dreaming with us!
