We can’t deny a great sauce can propel a meal into another realm of deliciousness. At the same time, we are also aware that many ready-made sauces contain a shocking amount of sugar, unhealthy fats, and preservatives. So much so that it can take your healthy homemade-dish to a not so healthy one. May 2021 Feature Chef Morgan Simon was kind enough to share her homemade Paleo BBQ Sauce. You can still have your delicious sauce without all of the unwanted junk!
“I love a good dipping sauce, but most store bought BBQ sauces are full of sugar, dyes, and preservatives. No thanks! This one is full of ingredients you probably have in your pantry and comes together quickly – no 30 minutes simmering on the stove required here!”
Paleo BBQ Sauce
Recipe By: Morgan Simon | Well Thymed
Pair This Recipe With: Beef Ribs, Chicken Drumsticks, Pork Baby Back Ribs, Chicken Wings, Meatballs, Pork Chops, and so much More!
Ingredients
- ¾ cup tomato paste
- ½ cup Balsamic vinegar
- 1 tsp unrefined salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 ½ tsp smoked paprika
- ½ tsp chili powder
- 2 tbsp coconut aminos
- 3 tbsp maple syrup (add more if you prefer a sweeter sauce)
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend for ~15 seconds (or until well mixed). Alternatively, whisk by hand for 2 minutes.
- Smother on ribs, or any other meat you’d like!
(Tip: Because this sauce doesn’t cook beforehand, I find it works best when it is used on meat and then finished in the oven for a few minutes).

However, when she got pregnant with her son over five years ago, this desire deepened tenfold. She quickly learned how toxic many baby products were (even the ones touted as natural!) and how many dyes and additives were being put in food (even the ones marketed as healthy!). This ultimately led her to become a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner. As an FNTP, Morgan works with women and children to help adopt a nutrient-dense, whole-food lifestyle and eliminate environmental toxins to live their best life possible.
