Happy New Year! The holidays may be over, but the winter season is settling in. Instead of hiding away from blustery winds and freezing cold temperatures, take some time to create a winter wellness routine to brighten your days. Here are ten tips to try this season.
#1 Boost Your Immunity
The winter season is a beautiful time of year, but unfortunately, it also brings with it cold and flu season. Though you may seek out nutrients through foods like vegetables, warming food, and delicious winter recipes, you may also consider taking supplements to boost immunity. Classic choices include elderberry, vitamin C, and zinc. You may even consider vitamin D to help bolster your mood due to the lack of sunshine during the winter months. Always remember to consult with your primary care physician before starting a new supplement routine.
#2 Connect with Loved Ones
You can easily connect with family, friends, and loved ones any time of the year, but winter is a great time to catch up and connect with everyone in your life. The winter season is the perfect time to slow down and retreat inside, which means you may see your tribe less, so what better time to call, catch up, and connect? Winter is also a time when many of us do not have busy schedules compared to other seasons like spring and summer, so take advantage of hibernation season and connect with loved ones.
#3 Do Things You Enjoy
The winter season is a great time to prioritize your mental health, which means engaging in activities you enjoy. Think of things like reading, working on a puzzle, or writing in a journal. Perhaps it is doing some light stretching at the end of the day or maybe an easy vinyasa yoga flow to unwind before bed. Carve out some time during the slower months of the year to do the small things you enjoy that you may not have time for at other times of the year.
#4 Enjoy the Twinkle Lights
Just because the end of the year holidays are over does not mean you cannot leave up a few strands of twinkle lights. There is something super comforting and cozy about twinkling lights. Curl up with a good book or movie at the end of the day and enjoy the twinkle lights as the winter darkness sets in. Plus, the glow of the soft twinkle lights adds some brightness to the darkness of winter and cannot help but bring a smile to your face.

#5 Exercise
It may be tempting to skip that morning workout and sleep in, but find a way to exercise and move your body daily. Whether it is a hot yoga class or a wintery walk with your furry friend around the neighborhood after dinner, find a way to add some movement to your winter wellness routine.
#6 Hand Hygiene
Since winter is the heart of cold and flu season, make it a point to practice good hand hygiene. Wash with soap and warm water after spending the day outdoors or carry some hand sanitizer with you to defend yourself from germs. Be sure to use a hydrating lotion to moisturize afterwards. More on that later.
#7 Hydrate
The summer months are an easy time to hydrate because many of us are usually dealing with hot and humid weather, but the cooler months of fall and winter can be challenging to stay hydrated. This is the perfect time of year to bust into that holiday gift of different herbal teas you received from your Secret Santa. Or perhaps this is a time to learn how to make your own homemade bone broth or you can always sip some from your favorite brand.
#8 Maintain a Sleep Schedule
Sleep is important at all times of the year, but during the winter months, it may be tempting to hibernate. Instead, go to bed early and maintain your usual wake-up schedule. Sleep is also very important to the immune system so keep your body in tip-top shape by prioritizing sleep.
#9 Manage Dry Skin
Cozying up inside during the winter months is the best way to beat the frigid winter temperatures, but forced air heating can severely dry out the skin. It is important to take care of your skin by exfoliating, hydrating, and moisturizing. Here are some tips on how you can maintain radiant skin all winter long.
#10 Try Red Light Therapy
Red light therapy is a great way to work on your skincare routine, especially during the winter season. Red light therapy offers a variety of benefits including fighting acne, dark spots, and inflammation. It can even help reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Need a brand recommendation?
