Engage the Glutes
Dr. Eric Serrano MD has developed free weight exercises that target the glutes as nature intended. As a result the muscle fiber recruit is very intense pending the effort level of the trainee. Depending on the client goals we may assign one training day to the glutes and the rest of the posterior chain which includes the hamstrings and low back. Another training day can be dedicated to more quadriceps focused exercises.
Maximizing Caloric Burn
Both women and men must include at least one, but in many cases two lower body weight training days per week to maximize rates of fat burning. The lower body contains larger muscles which as a result have more calorie burning potential when trained correctly compared to the upper body. Some people naturally avoid lower body weight training as the fear muscle discomfort or may not know how to properly structure a workout.
How does “Cardio” Factor IN?
We implement fat burning interval work for clients to maximize metabolic rate while peaking fat burning hormones. However these types of sessions done on a recumbent bike for example are not designed to improve the appearance of the glutes. There must be a balance between the amount of lower body work done each week when considering the clients ability to recovery. Over training kills progress very quickly!
