Scott, we are just two weeks into the New Year and I am getting bored as well as hungry with our food choices. This has us worried as in the past it has been one of the factors that has made consistency very hard as it pertains to the right food choices necessary for losing body fat. What can we do to keep things fresh? ~ Brenda and Matt, Buffalo Grove, IL.
Eating the same food choices, amounts, and timing day after day is a recipe for disaster. Not only will this lead to more cravings, but also slows down fat burning for several reasons. Dr. Serrano and I built a High Calorie Day into the 21 Day Fat Cell Cleanse Nutrition Plan to break up the boredom and to surge metabolic rate. Clients tell us they feel so much more satisfied throughout the week when using a high calorie day with increased dietary fat from healthier sources.
High Calorie Day Magic
High Calorie Days at least one day per week boost metabolism, increase enzymes to mobilize more stored fat as fuel and naturally optimize fat burning hormones. A high intake of healthy food including choices with high levels of dietary fat puts fat burning into overdrive for several days following. Imagine three or four meals on a Saturday full of grass fed steaks, fresh guacamole, wild caught salmon, raw nuts, vegetables cooked in grass fed butter and more!

Beat the Caveman Metabolism
The body seeks efficiency to promote survival and let’s keep in mind that losing body fat is not a priority unless the correct signals are sent. As a matter of fact there are many built in switches to turn on fat storage as a means for survival even though starvation is not a realistic risk for a majority of those reading this article. Remember the metabolism and other elements have not evolved much since the time we were all cavemen.
Your high calorie day should be done on your most challenging exercise day of the week. Do not be afraid of some training outdoors even if the weather is cold. In addition to a training session go for a walk on a high calorie day to improve energy levels.
Strategic Nutrition Changes
Eating in the same fashion day after day enables the body to burn less fat as the metabolism becomes accustom to what materials it has to work with and what time they will arrive by way of meals on a daily basis. Following 6 days of a similar schedule the High Calorie Day on Saturday for example pushes metabolism for the roof as the body must all of a sudden deal with an increased amount of quality food sources.
Keep Fat Burning Going All Week Long
The body then keeps fat burning mechanisms at the ready all week in preparation for the next larger influx of food. Metabolism remains elevated for several days as a result of the increased organic food intake.
Shifting up the dietary fat intake on the High Calorie day from organic sources also provides a strategic contrast to the other 6 days of the week to prevent metabolic staleness. Dr. Serrano and I call this macronutrient cycling which has helped clients successfully lose body fat at excellent rates by breaking metabolic staleness, increasing fat burning enzymes and naturally optimizing fat burning hormones.
