Grass-fed Guide to Perfect Burgers

This post was written by Megan Olson of PaleoHacks. PaleoHacks is a top source for amazing Paleo recipes, fitness tips, and wellness advice to help you live life to the fullest.

There’s nothing like sinking your teeth into a juicy burger. Honor the American classic with this simple, fatty hamburger recipe that cooks to perfection every time.

The key to making burger patties unique and succulent is in the type of beef you use. You’ll usually find 3 varieties: 55%, 75% and 85% lean. Each has equally meaty flavors, but the 55% lean is well-suited for those on a ketogenic diet due to the higher fat content. (You can get them here).

For this standard burger recipe, you can use any ground beef variety you prefer. If you’re using the 75% or 85% lean ground beef, we recommend that you add an egg to the mix to help bind them into patties.

This hamburger recipe has just a few simple ingredients to let the beef flavor shine. Serve your Paleo burgers in a lettuce wrap, topped with tomato, sliced onion, avocado, and drizzled in mustard. Enjoy them for lunch or dinner served with a side of your favorite vegetables and Cajun sweet potato fries.

Prep time: 10 minutes

Cook time: 10 minutes

Total time: 20 minutes

Yield: 4 patties

Ingredients

1 lb. grass-fed US Wellness Ground Beef (any variety)

1 egg (if using lean beef, e.g., 75% or 85%)

½ t garlic powder

½ t onion powder

Salt and pepper, to taste

How to Make It
  1. Preheat a large grill pan to medium heat.
  2. In a large bowl, place the meat with the seasonings, salt, peppers and egg, if using. Use your fingers to break up the meat and mix the seasonings thoroughly.
  3. Split the beef into quarters with your hands, then roll into a ball and flatten into a patty. Repeat until 4 patties are made.
  4. Place the beef patties on the grill pan. For medium-well burgers, cook 5 minutes then flip and cook another 3-4 minutes.
