Diced Apple Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

slow cooker pulled pork, apples, paleo

We are so pleased to share this yummy slow cooker recipe on the blog. It features diced apples and pulled pork. Special thanks to past Featured Chef, Dominique Fasano for this mouthwatering recipe.

A delicious pulled pork recipe seasoned with fresh diced apples, cinnamon, paprika and rubbed sage. It cooks in the slow cooker for several hours, letting all the flavors melt into the meat.

I love the smell and taste of meat that has been cooked for hours and hours. It results in the most flavorful and satisfying recipe…which is why I love this Diced Apple Slow Cooker Pulled Pork so much.

USWM Shopping List: Pork Shoulder Roast, Honey

Ingredients

  • 3.5 pounds pork shoulder roast
  • 2 heaping cups diced apples
  • 1 Tbs mustard
  • 2 Tbs honey
  • 1/2 cup apple juice
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup beef or chicken stock
  • 2 tsp onion powder
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 Tbs paprika
  • 2 tsp rubbed sage
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Put the diced apples into the slow cooker. Top the diced apples with the mustard, honey, apple juice, apple cider vinegar and beef or chicken stock. Mix everything together.
  2. Then, combine all of the spices together ( onion powder, garlic powder, cinnamon, paprika, rubbed sage, salt, black pepper). Rub the spice mixture on top of the pork.
  3. Put the pork on top of the apples in the slow cooker.
  4. Cook on low for 8 hours or on high for 6 hours.
  5. Remove the pork from the slow cooker, strain the apples, and keep the liquid.
  6. Then, shred the pork in a large bowl, add the apples on top, and add a little bit of the liquid (enough to make the pulled pork moist). You can throw the rest of the liquid away. Mix the pulled pork, and apples together.
Recipe Notes

If your pork is not shredding, it may need to cook longer.  This happened to me and I cooked it in the slow cooker for an extra hour and then it shred perfectly.
