IN THE KITCHEN WITH STEPH LODGE

2019 US Wellness Meats Featured Chef Q&A

Tell us about yourself:

My name is Steph Lodge and I’m a writer, recipe developer, nutritional consultant and weightlifter with a passion for health and wellness. I’m the founder of The Athlete’s Kitchen, a site dedicated to all things health and wellness. While I’ve always been into nutrition and health, I found so much joy with developing real recipes using all natural ingredients. I’ve come to realize just how important our nutrition is to the quality of our lives. I’m so happy to work with US Wellness Meats and get the word of grass-fed beef and other quality foods out there.

How did you get involved in cooking?

My interest in cooking stems from my passion of health and wellness. As a nutrition consultant and weightlifter, my goals were to teach others how to fuel their body properly. And, that you can have a lot of fun in the kitchen by doing so.

Describe your cooking style:

Constantly evolving and learning from everyone I meet.

How did you learn about grass-fed meats?

I learned a lot about USWM from watching my favorite channels on social media and who they were collaborating with!

What is your favorite recipe featuring grass-fed meat?

A reverse-seared tenderloin, thanks to my Aunt for teaching me her tricks!

You’re stranded on a desert island; luckily, you’re stranded with your top 5 ingredients and one must-have kitchen tool:

Ribeye, Salt, Pepper, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, and a Lodge Cast Iron Skillet

Best cooking secret/tip/piece of advice you’ve learned:

The manipulation of salt and olive oil in any amount can completely change the taste. My friend Colin Barclay taught me a lot of things about the manipulation of taste!

What’s your favorite quote/song for culinary inspiration (if any)?

I watch the episode of Chef’s Table featuring Francis Mallman on repeat.

Anything else you want to share?

The cooking community is an amazing one to be in. I have met some amazing people, including Chef Kieran Creevy, whom I can’t wait to work with one day!
