Marisa Tolsma is a certified GAPS™ coach. Marisa has been able to overcome chronic health issues with diet. She developed Bumblebee Apothecary to share nourishing recipes, natural remedies, skincare, and home products.


Tell us about yourself:

My name is Marisa Tolsma, certified GAPS Diet coach and founder of Bumblebee Apothecary at Reversing chronic health issues with diet changed my life, and now I help busy people make nourishing meals doable and delicious.

How did you get involved in cooking?

I have my mom to thank for this! She had all of us involved in the kitchen from a young age. She taught me so much: cooking techniques, to not be afraid to be creative and come up with something new, and cooking as a way to show others you care.

Describe your cooking style:

I love simple, from scratch recipes that are delicious and revolve around nutrient dense foods to support good health.

How did you learn about grass-fed meats?

In my GAPS diet coach journey, I learned how important it is to source the highest quality foods, and what a difference it makes for our health. Along the way in this journey, I learned that grass-fed meats are a much healthier and more nutritious choice.

What is your favorite recipe featuring grass-fed meat?

It’s hard to pick just one! I really love a simple, slow-cooked beef stew with beef shanks, bay leaves, really good salt, and a few vegetables like carrots and turnips.

You’re stranded on a desert island; luckily, you’re stranded with your top 5 ingredients and one must-have kitchen tool:

My top 5 ingredients would be beef tallow, a cut of beef with the bone in it, organic onions, organic carrots, high quality mineral salt and my cast iron dutch oven.

Best cooking secret/tip/piece of advice you’ve learned:

Keep it simple! When you’re using really high quality, well sourced ingredients, the amazing flavors speak for themselves without needing a complicated recipe.
