IN THE KITCHEN WITH MARCUS & TAMISHA WASHINGTON

Tell us about yourself:

Hey there! We are Marcus and Tamisha Washington, aka the Him and Her in Him her and a Fork. We are husband and wife food, fitness, and lifestyle bloggers that love food just about as much as we love each other. We love traveling, working out, and spending time with our newborn daughter. A perfect day for us would start with a workout in a hotel gym in a city we’ve never been too before, leading into a day filled with food and adventure. Learn more about us on our blog, himherandafork.com.

How did you get involved in cooking?

Marcus spent just as much time outside playing sports as he did with his grandmother in the kitchen. What started as a way to get the cake batter bowl, has now turned into a full blown healthy obsession with food. As we spent more time together we wanted to take control of our health and we realized it starts with food.

Describe your cooking style:

Our cooking style is “paleo-ish”. We began eating and cooking this way after we did our first Whole30 and our bodies felt great. Ever since those 30 days we have been coming up with paleo, Whole30 compliant recipes, while realizing, it’s ok to “cheat” every now and again.

How did you learn about grass-fed meats?

We learned about quality, grass-fed meats while reading about paleo and Whole30.

What is your favorite recipe featuring grass-fed meat?

Easily our Sweet Potato Chili, but a close second would be a nice cut of beef, cooked medium+ on the grill, simply seasoned with salt and pepper.

You’re stranded on a desert island; luckily, you’re stranded with your top 5 ingredients and one must-have kitchen tool:

Kitchen tool would be the Instant Pot. Ingredients would be grass-fed beef, sweet potatoes, kale, tomato, and eggs.

Best cooking secret/tip/piece of advice you’ve learned:

Coconut oil can be a substitute for so many things. For example, we make a dairy-free chocolate brownie using coconut oil instead of butter.

What’s your favorite quote/song for culinary inspiration (if any)?

People who love to eat are always the best people” – Julia Child’s

Anything else you want to share?

With the birth of our daughter, we are now venturing into baby food recipes. Right now, we are in the development phase and soon we hope to be sharing recipes on our website, himherandafork.com under our new “Baby” section. If all goes well, we may have a little business venture in our hands.
