IN THE KITCHEN WITH KIM DELATORRE
Tell us about yourself:
I am a mom to three terrific kids and wife to an amazing husband. I met my husband in grade school and have known him my whole life! We live in a very tiny town in Idaho and love it! Farmland as far as the eye can see and snow-topped mountains surrounding our home. Life is slow here, but so beautiful and peaceful! I started blogging in March of 2008 after my daughter was born. I love everything about blogging from the wonderful brands I have the opportunity to work with to all the fun and brilliant people I meet on a daily basis. I enjoy working out, shopping online, baking, cooking, grilling, and SO much more!
How did you get involved in cooking?
I started cooking and baking at a very young age. My mom was always cooking in her kitchen and I would just hang out with her and help her. Such wonderful memories! I need to go visit my mama soon so we can make more of those precious memories together.
Describe your cooking style:
It is funny because my cooking and baking style is so random. That is the only way I know how to describe it. When I say random, I mean I can throw together a recipe so quickly with what I have on hand. And, my recipes are never the same either! That is because I add different ingredients each time and I NEVER measure anything! Hey, that is what your mouth is for, right? To taste as you cook/bake? My family has never complained so I must be doing something right!
How did you learn about grass-fed meats?
I did a lot of research once we moved to Idaho in 2016. I knew there were a lot of farmers here that raised cattle and I wanted to learn how I can feed my family healthier meat if that makes sense. So that started me on researching grass-fed meats!
What is your favorite recipe featuring grass-fed meat?
My absolute favorite recipe and my family’s too is my bacon-wrapped jalapeno poppers! I make them at least once a month and they do not last long! We love grilling on our Traeger, even in the wintertime! And we get a LOT of snow 🙂
You’re stranded on a desert island; luckily, you’re stranded with your top 5 ingredients and one must-have kitchen tool:
That is easy! Chicken breast, green onions, Johnny’s seasoning, white rice, and soy sauce! My must-have kitchen tool is definitely my 360 cookware stockpot with a lid! I can cook just about anything in that and it is the perfect size to cook a meal for a family of 5!
Best cooking secret/tip/piece of advice you’ve learned:
Taste as you cook! The best way to get the best flavors is to keep tasting your creation as you cook it! I learned that from my mama!
What’s your favorite quote/song for culinary inspiration (if any)?
Go with the flow, clean as you go! My mom ALWAYS said this to me when we cooked and baked together in the kitchen, and it has stuck with me all these years! Because of this saying/quote, my kitchen is NEVER dirty or messy when I am cooking. I wipe things down and put things away as I use them. It makes the experience SO much better and easier for me.
