Tell us about yourself:

I’m Holly, a Dietitian with a love and passion for holistic health and sharing digestible tips and tricks around topics related to how food really is medicine and how much it can impact the mind, body and spirit. When I am not in the kitchen you can find me exploring new cities, countries and restaurants as my love for traveling and trying new foods continues to grow. I share both recipes and adventures on my social accounts @hollys_bestlife

How did you get involved in cooking?

My journey into cooking and experimenting in the kitchen began when I was 15, shortly after being diagnosed with celiac disease. At the time, my health was deteriorating, and no doctor seemed to have answers. As a last resort, I saw a holistic dietitian who truly listened to me, ultimately changing the course of my life. Growing up on the “standard American diet,” I had no idea how much food impacts our health. After my diagnosis, I was on my own to figure out what I could eat. My family, unfamiliar with gluten and hesitant to learn, left me to navigate this new challenge on my own. That was the switch that started me down a path of exploring both a healthy way of life and cooking.

Describe your cooking style:

My cooking style is minimalistic, wholesome, and nourishing. I focus on creating recipes that are approachable for anyone, regardless of their skill level, and can be made in little to no time. It’s all about using simple ingredients to craft meals that support health without sacrificing flavor or convenience.

How did you learn about grass-fed meats?

About 10 years ago, I learned about grass-fed meats while chatting with a local farmer at my farmers market in Michigan. He had recently started his own farm, and at the time, grass-fed products were still rare to find in stores. Many people didn’t yet understand the environmental benefits or the differences in quality. So I dove deeper into the topic and formed a friendship with the farmer. Shortly after, I convinced my family to purchase half a cow, and even they were amazed by the difference in taste and texture!

What is your favorite recipe featuring grass-fed meat?

Definitely Balsamic Liver and Onions… so simple, quick and my favorite way to eat liver which is such an underrated “superfood”!

You’re stranded on a desert island; luckily, you’re stranded with your top 5 ingredients and one must-have kitchen tool:

My Vitamix
Salt
Olive Oil
Liver
Spinach
Strawberries

Best cooking secret/tip/piece of advice you’ve learned:

Don’t be afraid to experiment; throw things in, taste and repeat. Eventually it will work! Experimenting is the way you learn your way around a kitchen.

What’s your favorite quote/song for culinary inspiration (if any)?

I love this quote simply as a reminder for why quality is so important when it comes to food “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food” and this quote as more inspiration in the kitchen to keep creating “We all eat, and it would be a sad waste of opportunity to eat badly.” – Anna Thomas
