IN THE KITCHEN WITH DANIELLE CHRISTY
Tell us about yourself:
HI! I’m Danielle! I became a health coach a few years ago to further my knowledge as well as help as many people as I could develop healthy relationships with food and get back to home cooking. I have realized how important food is when cooked at home. It’s not only healthier for you, but also it gives love and comfort to those that eat it. The kitchen is the heart of the home, and the more we surround ourselves with healthy ingredients, routines, and community, the more fulfilled life will be.
Although I am not professionally trained, I am self-taught. Last year, I took a leap, left my hotel career to pursue my love of cooking, and helped get families back to eating healthy meals at home. I became a personal chef as well as started a recipe blog, Savor the Kitchen. I am sharing some family favorite recipes and a ton of new ones weekly. I love to focus on seasonal ingredients, eating the rainbow, and offering kitchen tips and tricks for home cooking. My hope is to inspire more family dinners, just like I had when I was little. I am teaching the importance of whole real foods and bringing love back into the kitchen one bite at a time.
How did you get involved in cooking?
I have always been drawn to the kitchen ever sine I was little. My 93 year old grandma always let me help mash potatoes , peel beets and help in the garden. It became a love at a very young age and growing up eating meals as a family also lent a hand in my cooking adventures as well. I started making dinner for the family every night around age 9 and haven’t stopped. I love being creative and bringing flavors together with fresh ingredients keeping it simple to let them shine. The kitchen was more than just where I was fueled physically but mentally as well. Building memories and relationships that last a lifetime.
Describe your cooking style:
My cooking style is approachable and I try to keep things as simple as possible. Let the ingredients speak for themselves. It’s important for me to not only eat organic but also support the farmers as well. All from the meats I choose to cook with to the fruits and veggies. I love to treat food as nourishment for the mind and body and eat the rainbow. Making colorful dishes that not only look delicious but taste amazing as well.
How did you learn about grass-fed meats?
About 6 years ago I started really wanting to make sure what I was cooking and eating was the best quality possible. Not only for my own health but for the planet. I also really love supporting farmers who treat animals the right way. Along with that the meat is so much tastier.
