IN THE KITCHEN WITH AMANDA SCARLATI
Tell us about yourself:
I’m a professionally trained chef, food blogger, and mom of four based in Salt Lake City, Utah. I founded Scarlati Family Kitchen as a way to help busy home cooks bring their families together through delicious, approachable meals. I’m passionate about quality ingredients, cooking from scratch, and creating recipes that make people feel confident and connected in the kitchen.
How did you get involved in cooking?
I’ve loved cooking for as long as I can remember. Growing up, food was the heart of comfort and connection with my family. I eventually pursued a culinary degree and spent over 15 years in the food industry before starting my own business.
Describe your cooking style:
My style is approachable comfort food with a chef’s touch. They are hearty, flavorful meals made from scratch using real, wholesome ingredients. I focus on Italian-American classics, seasonal produce, and family-friendly dishes that can fit into real life.
How did you learn about grass-fed meats?
As I started learning more about nutrition and ingredient sourcing—especially as a mom and wellness advocate—grass-fed and pasture-raised meats became a priority for our home. I love knowing that what we’re eating is not only delicious but raised with care and intention.
What is your favorite recipe featuring grass-fed meat?
It’s hard to choose, but Slow Cooked Pot Roast never fails. It’s easy, cozy, and full of flavor—and reminds me of Sunday dinners growing up.
You’re stranded on a desert island; luckily, you’re stranded with your top 5 ingredients and one must-have kitchen tool:
Ingredients: Garlic, olive oil, lemons, salt, and fresh herbs. Kitchen tool: A good chef’s knife—hands down!
Best cooking secret/tip/piece of advice you’ve learned:
Flavor is built, step by step, in a dish. Taste as you go, and trust your instincts. Recipes are a guide, but learning to adjust based on flavor, texture, and what you have on hand is what builds true confidence in the kitchen.
What’s your favorite quote/song for culinary inspiration (if any)?
“Good food is very often, even most often, simple food.” – Anthony Bourdain It’s a good reminder that the best food isn’t complicated or overdone, it’s simple!
Anything else you want to share?
I’m honored to be part of this! I’m currently studying integrative nutrition and wellness, so I love the opportunity to showcase ingredients that nourish both the body and the soul.
