I prefer to eat the same basic meals every day, but after reading some of your columns I can see that may not be the best way to do things. After a few weeks of eating very well my progress usually slows down. Would I be better off changing things up to get metabolism going on certain days? How do I do it so I can lose about 20 pounds of body fat? ~ Tammy
Yes Tammy, the meal frequency, caloric intake and macronutrient percentages must change at least one time per week when you want to maximize rates of body fat loss. A high calorie day includes the right food choices to spike metabolism, break metabolic staleness, increase fat burning enzymes and to naturally optimize fat burning hormones.

Changing Meal Frequency
Rotating intermittent fasting periods is very important for maximizing body fat loss as well. The high calorie day is an opportunity to use three meals instead of two which provides a distinct meal frequency change the body needs to avoid staleness. Consuming more calories one day per week helps to send powerful signals to the brain that starvation is not an issue. The body responds by speeding up metabolism to deal with the larger food intake which can remain elevated for several days under the right conditions.
Dietary Fat Loading
On the High Calorie Day you will want to increase food intake from sustainably raised protein and dietary fat sources. Shifting up the dietary fat intake strategically contrasts to the other days of the week. The body responds to the higher intake of dietary fat from grass fed beef, pasture raised pork, avocados, extra virgin olive oil and more by spiking fat burning enzymes. Organically raised protein sources on the grill are well timed now that Spring has arrived. Mix up the choices so you can have more variety within the nutrition plan. Remember that vegetables hot off the grill and then smothered in grass fed butter work perfectly as well.
Fat Burning Enzymes
Fat Burning Enzymes go through the roof on the high calorie day and remain elevated for several days. Consuming a higher intake of organic dietary fat sources compared to the other six days of the week forces the body to naturally increase fat burning enzymes to deal with the incoming food. Returning to a normal intake of dietary fat on the following day leaves massively increased fat burning enzymes nothing to do but to attack stored fat.

Resistance Training Benefits
The High Calorie Day is an ideal day to weight train to further boost metabolism and fat burning hormones for up to 48 hours following the session, under the right recovery conditions. Use the most aggressive exercise day of the week on the high calorie day for obvious reasons. In some cases clients may train twice on the High Calorie day to take full advantage of the conditions.
